We have collaborated with Melbourne artist Rel Pham to create bespoke artworks for our lightboxes, inspired by how the Snake beame the sixth animal in the Chinese zodiac. Head into the North Precinct to view the Serpent's Tale story.
Rel Pham is an artist, designer, animator and illustrator known for a strong use of electric, vibrant colours and a penchant for surrealism. Drawing upon old world fables and rituals for thematic inspiration, Pham explores the interconnected nature of our current physical and digital realities through screen-based video, animation and installation. Pham creates hybrid worlds, rendering traditional scenes of Cao Dai temples and Western classical art in an illuminated palette of neon PC coolant fluid and radiant LED lights. He flattens our past, present and future to demystify the invisible numbers that surround everyday life, exposing the programmed spectres haunting our data through cautionary tales of being intrinsically connected online.
We have collaborated with Melbourne artist Joy Chiang to showcase five artworks inspired by the Year of the Snake. Head into the North Precinct to find all five artworks and learn ore about each piece: Fú – Good Fortune, Lù – Prosperity, Shòu – Longevity, Shé – Snake, and Cái – Wealth.
"To bring this vision to life, I’ve combined layers of my mixed media paintings with AI-generated elements and digital collaging. By experimenting with traditional techniques and new technologies, I aim to create pieces that evoke a sense of renewal and positivity. I hope these works remind us all of the blessings we strive for in life. Wishing you a joyful, prosperous, and fulfilling Lunar New Year!" Joy Chiang
Joy Chiang is an abstract artist blending traditional and digital techniques to create emotive, contemporary works. She discovered her passion for painting during maternity leave, using it as a creative outlet to navigate the highs and lows of parenthood. Joy’s art combines bold brushstrokes, vibrant patterns, and layered storytelling, enriched by her use of Chinese calligraphy, textures, and inks. As an early adopter of AI and an Adobe ambassador, she seamlessly integrates physical painting with AI-generated surrealism, 3D modeling, and motion graphics to push the boundaries of her art.
